Da Hong Pao, also known as Royal Red Robe, is one of the most prized oolong teas available. Legend has it that this tea helped rid the illness of an Emperor's mother. The Emperor was so grateful, he sent royal robes to the mountainside to protect the tea bushes. Produced from thousand year old bushes on the Wuyi Mountains in China, this tea was normally reserved for a king and his honored guests. This tea comes from Guangxi, SW China. Plucking occurs only once a year for this rare tea. And that is during the 2nd & 3rd week of March. Plucking is strictly the tea buds, hence the very white downy leaves. The buds produce a delicately colored cup upon brewing. No astringency and vegetal notes are present with each sip.
